[SLL] tab button gets stuck down when no keyboard plugged in?

We kept the keyboard plugged in and stashed under the counter a while on
the first day.  we unplugged it after a "bug" caused the app to "lock
up" while displaying a stream of '2' chars in a funny little pop-up box.
I guess we could leave it plugged in if they can make sure none of the
keys would accidentally be pressed, but that seems like too much work
and unreliable.
